Outlander Book 1- Diana Gabaldon

After watching most seasons of Outlander and reading the first three books. I found it time to come back to the subject. I am in the process of re-reading the book and thus I would like to talk to you about it. I saw I have reviewed season 1 of the series. Which I do think should be corrected. Thus, there is much more to come but let’s start with book 1.

What is this story about?
Scottish Highlands, 1945. Claire Randall, a former British combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an “outlander”—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding clans in the year of Our Lord . . . 1743. Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of a world that threatens her life and may shatter her heart. Marooned amid danger, passion, and violence, Claire learns her only chance of safety lies in Jamie Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior. What begins in compulsion becomes urgent need, and Claire finds herself torn between two very different men, in two irreconcilable lives.

What did I think?
This book is so fascinating it takes you right into the story and it makes you feel all the things that Claire feels. She is such a smart and capable woman that you want her to succeed but after a while, you wonder what that success might be for her. Diana Gabaldon is such a capable writer who truly makes you feel you know the characters. When one dies it is truly sad. When people harm any of the main characters you feel it in your heart. I think this is a great book that is quite easy to read. I also think it’s quite close to the series not fully and the books don’t follow the seasons. Yet if you love the series, I recommend this book as a great holiday read. I admit that I even like Claire and Jaimie more than I do in the series and I love them something fierce in the series.
