Outlander Book 2: Drangonfly in amber – Diana Gabaldon

When you fall in love with a coupling or with an idea of two people together. It can feel upsetting when you have to say goodbye. Especially knowing it would never be again. But to then be welcomed into the story again but it to be different? That might be the hardest thing of all.

What is this story about?
From the author of Outlander… a magnificent epic that once again sweeps us back in time to the drama and passion of 18th-century Scotland…

For twenty years Claire Randall has kept her secrets. But now she is returning with her grown daughter to Scotland’s majestic mist-shrouded hills. Here Claire plans to reveal a truth as stunning as the events that gave it birth: about the mystery of an ancient circle of standing stones …about a love that transcends the boundaries of time …and about James Fraser, a Scottish warrior whose gallantry once drew a young Claire from the security of her century to the dangers of his ….

Now a legacy of blood and desire will test her beautiful copper-haired daughter, Brianna, as Claire’s spellbinding journey of self-discovery continues in the intrigue-ridden Paris court of Charles Stuart …in a race to thwart a doomed Highlands uprising …and in a desperate fight to save both the child and the man she loves…. I got this information here.

What did I think?
Ah, how I fell in love with Brianna and Roger in this book. I found it an absolute delight to meet them and to learn about them. I found it so interesting how Roger became implicated in the whole scenario. It was also interesting to see the doubt about the rising vanish into the idea that they should try their best to have everyone saved.  The whole ordeal in France is so lovely as we can see Claire and Jamie play to their strengths. I also feel that Claire is a bit less of a deer in headlights in social situations. She understands better what is expected of her, while she still keeps her personality.

When the rising does happen, as it always would have. It feels so sad for Jamie and Claire to say goodbye but in a way, it is the best. We all know it is, for their baby. However, this does not make it better in any way. The way Claire told her daughter about her dad though, I feel that could have been handled so much better. Telling someone that the man who brought them up all their lives isn’t their dad is bad enough. To then tell them that their dad lived 200 years ago? It sounds deranged even if it is not. The fact that she ended up believing because of Geillis Duncan/Gillian Edgars is I think very good. This does not mean that the conversation should have been a thousand times better. This book made me excited to read the next book which is something only great series do.
