After the Credits

House of Guinness Season 1 (2025)

When I saw the first glimpses of this series, I was so excited. And every time something about it was put out online, I thought it was out already. So when it dropped, I, of course, gave it a go.

The film in short
Follows the aftermath of the death of brewery mogul, Sir Benjamin Guinness, and the great impact of his will on the fate of his four adult children: Arthur, Edward, Anne, Ben, and other Dubliners affected by the expanding Guinness empire. I got this information here.

My Thoughts
This series was exactly the sort of series I was craving for Autumn. It was so fun. I actually enjoyed it enough to finish it rather quickly for my doing.

I felt really sorry for Ben, although at the end of the day, his father had been absolutely right. I did feel that he was a very non-character within the series, and I would have enjoyed seeing a bit more of him, especially his struggle and what happened for him in that regard. I really did understand his reasoning for his drinking problem, and although there does not have to be a reason perse I do think it would have made his arc even more devastating if there was a reason given.

I felt for Anne, too; it is quite awful to think about being a woman back in the day who did not inherit anything for the simple reason of being married. I did not get a feel for her husband at all, or her marriage. I mean, she stepped out of it, and that is a bad sign, but later on, they do have a child together. I thought she was amazing at wrangling her brothers and making their company help the less privileged people around them. Once more, this is a woman who deserved that seat at the table as much as her brothers did. I do feel glad her brothers do not seem to hold her as below them, which I do very much appreciate.

I went a bit back and forth on Arthur; there were times I really liked him and times I felt for him. Other times, I could not stand the sight of him. I am a bit confused with the relationship between him and his wife, as they do care for each other and he did not mind she was sleeping with someone else, yet his ego was bruised when she fell pregnant. I understand that he does not like her in a sexual way, but I would have liked a conversation about having children and what that would look like. Also, the scene in the bathroom was an absolute jumpscare for me. I would have preferred not to have seen that.

Edward is my favourite, from his flamboyant coat to his relationship with Ellen, who I really like. She is an absolute badass. I did know their relationship was doomed from the start, but I really liked Edwards’ honesty about the whole situation. I think because I enjoyed their dynamic so much, it took a while for me to warm up to Adelaide. I think because she felt Edward only did certain things to win her over at it were, when that wasn’t the case. I did really start to like her near the end, and I was glad they were together. I would love to see their relationship blossom into more than obligation.

I liked him because you could tell he really did care for the company, but took Anne’s suggestions into account far more than Arthur did. I think he understood much more than Arthur that to be successful is to be liked. To give freely to get back. I also felt he is a bit of a romantic, something I absolutely appreciate.

I also liked to see the sibling relationships, especially Arthur and Edward, who had to try to work together while both doing stupid things. From the clothes to the sets to the music, it was a delight to watch.

The ending was shocking, and I cannot wait to see where they will take it for the next season.
