Dead Poets Society (1989)
This was one of the films I told you was a must-watch, and as I recently rewatched It, I knew I had to reiterate this. I also felt it was an interesting film to start the year with.
The film in short
Maverick teacher John Keating returns in 1959 to the prestigious New England boys’ boarding school where he was once a star student, using poetry to embolden his pupils to new heights of self-expression.

My Thoughts
A teacher who has a true passion for his work is very interesting, as we hardly ever see this in shows where the love from the students is well deserved. It was absolutely in this one.
It hit all the right notes, the highs and the lows. It was not a simple high school type of movie. It really is one of those films you think of fondly, but then when you watch it again, you remember the complexity of it.
There is always something new to learn and understand. Every single watch is a new layer. I would never presume everyone has seen this film, and I want to encourage you to do so without spoiling all of it.
And thus the ending is always terribly sad. It rips your heart right out of your chest. It might in other situations this might make me avoid a re-watch, but not in this one. It’s interesting and wonderfully made, and although it’s sad there is something powerful there too.
As I said before, an absolute must-watch.
