The Reading Garden

The Best of Me by Nicolas Sparks

Welcome to the forgotten shelf. This is day 12!
Watch the video for today, here or here.

The Book in short
In the spring of 1984, high school students Amanda Collier and Dawson Cole fell deeply, irrevocably in love. But as the summer of their senior year came to a close, unforeseen events would tear the young couple apart, setting them on radically divergent paths.

Now, twenty-five years later, Amanda and Dawson are summoned back to Oriental for the funeral of Tuck Hostetler, the mentor who once gave shelter to their high school romance. Neither has lived the life they imagined.

As Amanda and Dawson carry out the instructions Tuck left behind for them, they realise that everything they thought they knew was not as it seemed. Forced to confront painful memories, the two former lovers will discover undeniable truths about the choices they have made. And in the course of a single, searing weekend, they will ask of the living, and the dead: Can love truly rewrite the past?

My Thoughts
The book was fine. I do not like cheating in books (or in general) whatsoever, but I also understood because the main character was in a relationship with someone who was, in fact, abusive. Although the book very much says he was not, he was, because due to him, the accident with their son happened.

Having said that, though. It was a fine book; it was enjoyable at points, but it was not a book I had fun with, and a book has to be fun. Not the material itself, but the experience, I think I am not the target audience for this book. And that’s okay because it will be the best book for someone else.

That was the forgotten shelf for today. I’ll see you tomorrow.
