The Reading Garden

Husband Material – Alexis Hall

It was three in the morning when I finished Boyfriend Material. I was at a loss, I loved the book so much. It was amazing and I had to know… What happened next? Naturally, I pulled up the next book and read well into the night.

The Book in short
In BOYFRIEND MATERIAL, Luc and Oliver met, pretended to fall in love, fell in love for real, dealt with heartbreak and disappointment and family and friends…and somehow figured out a way to make it work. Now it seems like everyone around them is getting married, and Luc’s feeling the social pressure to propose. But it’ll take more than four weddings, a funeral, and a bowl full of special curry to get these two from I don’t know what I’m doing to I do.
Good thing Oliver is such perfect HUSBAND MATERIAL.

My Thoughts
To get it out of the way, let’s start with the end. Also, this will contain spoilers. The ending worked wonderfully for Luc and Oliver. I was totally on board and understood why things happened the way they did. However, I was so sad for myself. I loved weddings, I love people getting married, and I love Luc and Oliver together, and I wanted them to get married, but then again, as I said, I understand why they didn’t. It was the right choice. But it was so sad for me.

I really liked how we saw more of the friend group again, as it felt like a true continuation of their lives. I am a big fan of Luc’s mum and her friend, and I thought the dad storyline was very interesting as well.

I liked how and why Oliver became a Vegan and how this was a continuation of his ethical views from the first book. I think it was a very fun book that felt different enough from the first tone without losing any of its charm. A definite recommendation.
