On his way to the wedding – Julia Quinn

With this book, I have finished the Bridgerton series. I must admit that the Netflix series made me seek out the books in the first place. On the other hand, I am glad I finished them before the show caught up. As I mentioned in my review of Season 3, I was somewhat disappointed that the elements I loved from the book weren’t included in the show. It was the reason the books got on my radar, but the storylines of the books are what kept me interested.
Starting this book, I must say that I was really looking forward to the final Bridgerton brother.

The book in short
Unlike most men of his acquaintance, Gregory Bridgerton believes in true love. And he is convinced that when he finds the woman of his dreams, he will know in an instant that she is the one. And that is exactly what happened. Except…

She wasn’t the one. In fact, the ravishing Miss Hermione Watson is in love with another. But her best friend, the ever-practical Lady Lucinda Abernathy, wants to save Hermione from a disastrous alliance, so she offers to help Gregory win her over. But in the process, Lucy falls in love. With Gregory! Except…

Lucy is engaged. And her uncle is not inclined to let her back out of the betrothal, even once Gregory comes to his senses and realises that it is Lucy, with her sharp wit and sunny smile, who makes his heart sing. And now, on the way to the wedding, Gregory must risk everything to ensure that when it comes time to kiss the bride, he is the only man standing at the altar…

My Thoughts
It was lovely. The epilogue alone was very interesting and grasped me right away. I read The Duke and I (part 2), The Viscount Who Loved Me, An Offer from a Gentleman and Romancing Mr Bridgerton one after the other. After a long wait due to my opinions on book 4, I read To Sir Philip with love, when he was wicked, and it’s in his kiss once again, one after the other. At the time, I was reading other things and hadn’t gotten around to this one. Especially because the books start blending together after a time.

I went into the book quite open-minded. In contrast to the Bridgerton girls, we haven’t gotten to know Gregory all that well; it took the epilogue for me to swoon all over the story. During most of the other books, he was away at Eton, making him a very new and fresh character in many aspects.

I found the story to be interesting. Gregory reads similarly to Colin, whereas the love interest reads similarly to Daphne. Within this book, we really see Kate shine as Lady Bridgerton, and I must admit that I do not always like this. I find her character not to be one one-on-one the same as Violet, where in this book she reads as such.

The dramatics of this book was interesting; it was, however, a bit on the nose, but I do not wish to spoil it for you. I did think it was interesting. I would have liked for Gregory to ask his family for help a bit more, as I did hope that is where it was going, but this did not turn out to be the case.

I do so love a happy ending, and most of the epilogues are just that. But this epilogue ripped my heart to pieces. It was tear-jerkingly sad. I do, however, like it very much. I think it was a really good ending to a well-enjoyed series. Although, as many of you might know. There is one more Bridgerton we should be hearing from soon when I review Violet in Bloom.
