The Reading Garden

The Forgotten Shelf: An Introduction

I have always loved reading; if you’ve read this blog, you know this. I started talking about books right from the start of my little blog (reviews that are not all on the blog anymore, I must admit.

I loved reading as a child and as a teenager, and then for a while I stopped reading.

Then I started reading again, but of course, my taste had changed, and I never really got back into reading the books I hadn’t gotten around to. Of course, a few I did read because I wanted to, but there were a few of those books… At some point, I wasn’t even sure why I had gotten them in the first place. Or what to do with them now that I have them. They were sitting on my shelves, and at some point, it’s not fun anymore. It’s overwhelming and horrid, but I couldn’t just ‘unhaul’ them and be done with that.

I can understand if you get a lot of books for free, it might be different, but for me, it’s not that easy. These were presents, or my own money, that bought these books. I didn’t just want to say goodbye without knowing them. Without understanding why I had gotten them. What I saw in them at some point.

This stack was sitting there, beside my bookshelf, books that I would get around to someday, but that day never came. This time, I set myself to read them and to finally let them go.

I will upload a new post about a new book every day. You can follow the series on TikTok and Instagram.

A quick side note, even though I post a video a day, I did in fact not read all these within 28 days, it would be absurd to try, and it would put me right back into a reading slump. More on this at a later date this month. As a final reminder, reading needs to be fun. If it’s not fun, we should read different books. See you tomorrow.
