June in Moments
Monthly Reflections are something, aren’t they? It can be quite difficult to look back and reflect, but it is something I long to do.
There’s something about June, isn’t there? The smell of the damp grass after a rainstorm and the soft warmth of a beginning summer. Today I want to share a small look into the month just past and to share a look forward to the next one.
What I Read
This month, I have been sharing a bit more about books I’ve been reading, and I have also started my Bookstagram. I have had one before, but didn’t love how it looked. I feel it’s much better now, and I am very pleased with it.
At the start of the month, I didn’t read a ton as I didn’t feel like it; I had read a few books that weren’t that great, and I was a bit burned out by it. I also had a book I was finishing up, and I just dislike ending a series so deeply.
Sometimes, when a book you are reading doesn’t click with you, it could be easier to let it go, but of course, I don’t do that. I know myself, and I will not be starting a new book before I finish the one I am currently reading. I just need to make time for it. Then I was reading an audiobook that is quite heavy and long as well, and it was a disaster waiting to happen, as then I could not easily work on one while letting the other rest for a bit, if that makes sense? Onwards and upwards, as they say, July will be different; it ought to be.
What I wrote and thought about writing
I have been writing a ton, not necessarily for the blog, but I’ve been writing a ton for a fandom I am in. Although I don’t think I am in the fandom necessarily, I just write for it. But that is some other discussion entirely.
It’s been really fun to once again write for fun. I have also been focusing on the blog as I have changed my writing style a little bit, making it less strict. I share the things I love, of course, but for a while, I felt I lost the personal touch I pride myself on. I think writing has to be for yourself first, and I agree with this wholeheartedly, but it also needs to be nice for the reader. I write for the me that isn’t me. The me that stumbles upon this place and thinks, ‘Yes, I’ll camp out here. ‘
I go back and forth between writing on paper and writing digitally, and I think they both have a place within my world. I would never be able to go fully digital. But I’ve also found joy in letting the words on the screen appear. Which is one of the reasons I got a new agenda, because writing things done just works so much better for me.
A moment that stayed with me
I had a discussion with a coach about something personal; however, we talked about looking back and how others would talk about you and your accomplishment, as in: “what would they say?”. This brought about a lot of internal growth and was so deeply interesting. It’s always good to look back but sometimes it’s easier to think: “what would they say?”
What I’m holding onto and what I’m letting go
I’m carrying this with me into July: Looking back is not only fun, let it be your strength.
And I’m leaving this behind: While you worry about what others think of you, those others worry about themselves.
See you all in July, where the sun is high in the sky and the books are amazing.
